TPS 3R Ketapang Olah Sampah Warga Duri Pulo dan Petojo Utara

Ketapang TPS 3R Processes 13 Tons of Waste from Duri Pulo and Petojo Utara

Ketapang Reuse, Reduce, Recycle Temporary Waste Collection Site (TPS 3R) receives and processes waste from residents of Duri Pulo and Petojo Utara Urban Village, Gambir Sub-district, Central Jakarta.

Create a cleaner and more energy-efficient urban environment

More than 10 tons of waste from two urban villages is processed into solid and liquid compost, as well as maggot feed.

Gambir Environment (LH) Unit Head Mumuh Mulyana said Ketapang TPS 3R is equipped with a waste shredder and Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) machine, which process large pieces of waste and separate them by type.

"Organic waste is separated, while dry non-organic waste such as plastic, small wood chips, and paper is shredded into small pieces using the RDF machine," Mumuh said on Friday (9/11).

He explained that shredded waste from Ketapang TPS 3R is then sent to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) for further processing to reduce its moisture content, weight, and size before being turned into waste pellets.

"The waste pellets processed at the Bantargebang TPST will later be used as an alternative raw material to replace coal at cement factories," he added.

Of the 13 tons of waste received at Ketapang TPS 3R each day, around six to seven tons are shredded using the RDF machine, he noted.

The rest includes organic waste, which is processed into 400 kilograms of solid and liquid compost, 100 kilograms used as maggot feed, and 700 kilograms of inorganic waste processed through the waste bank.

"The remaining four to five tons are residual waste that is disposed of at Bantargebang," he said.

Mumuh added that Ketapang TPS 3R personnel also turn leftover waste into various handicrafts with commercial value, such as tissue holders, plastic plants, and other items.

"Alhamdulillah, there is quite a lot of interest in these waste-based handicrafts, and they also serve as an educational tool for residents visiting Ketapang TPS 3R," he said.

He also called on residents of Duri Pulo and Petojo Utara to sort their waste at the source so that it is already separated when it reaches Ketapang TPS 3R, allowing the waste to be processed more effectively.

"This will help reduce the volume of waste sent to the site while optimizing the RDF machine's capacity to create a cleaner and more energy-efficient urban environment," he said.
